BRO-GA

NOUN
  1. Yoga classes for men who can't touch their toes. Followed by a cold beer.

  2. The perfect way to unwind, midweek.

Our classes are just right for men who are new to yoga and are keen to feel more supple and reduce tightness and stiffness.

It's a perfect environment for men to discover the benefits of yoga without feeling awkward and embarrassed, because everyone there is in the same boat.

The classes last one hour and begin with a gentle warm up and end with a deep relaxation period before a cold beer in good company.

Our 5-week starter course is just £69 - including the beer!

About the classes

Our 5-week courses are progressive, building from basic standing poses to more challenging movements.

All abilities are welcomed and our skilled teachers can work with any injuries and niggles that guys generally have - so everyone gets the most from the classes!

By the end of the course, you will have a good understanding of basic yoga poses and terminology, and be able to follow a flow sequence that incorporates all elements. .

Following the course we offer a Bro-ga membership where you can continue learning and improve on the skills and experiencing more of the benefits already achieved.

No lycra...

No lycra. No "ladies-who-lunch". Just regular guys in sports gear of their choice, who struggle to bend over to put their shoes on!

And no one takes it too seriously either, not even the Yoga teachers!

Beer and yoga.jpg

And there's beer...

If you want to stop ‘feeling your age’, then being more supple and less stiff is the best way to achieve it. I know this from personal experience and from seeing so many of my personal training clients feel much better after a good, long stretch class. And that’s exactly what Bro-ga is.

Teachers

Meet Our Teachers

Our experienced teachers come from a variety of backgrounds, but the one thing they have in common, is their passion for sharing the many benefits of yoga with others!

Explore your body's potential and take time to connect body and mind. I'd often considered training as a yoga teacher but always found reasons not to, until friends pointed out that it’s never too late and motivated me to do it, and I am so grateful they did! For me, yoga has always been not just a full body workout, but also a chance to take time for myself and find an inner calm. As my children grew, I had more time to devote to my practice and became stronger and more focused both on and off the mat. I feel lucky to be able to share what yoga has given me to help others to explore their potential and to take time to connect with their bodies and minds, as well as having fun!

Chiddingfold
I aim to make my yoga classes accessible, inclusive and inspirational for everyone. My yoga journey started over 15 years ago when I regularly started to attend all types of yoga classes. Yoga helped me to control my ongoing lower back pain and enabled me to manage my stress and anxiety. Yoga, breath work, mindfulness and meditation have all made a significant difference to my overall physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and is an important part of my daily life. I completed my 200 hour Yoga Teaching Training in 2019 and my 300 hour Advanced Teacher Training in 2022. I am passionate about anything related to yoga and sharing the joyous benefits of yoga with others in a safe, friendly and relaxing environment.

I seek to help people feel good on all levels through the power of yoga and self transformations. I offer a non-dogmatic, physical practice aimed at creating more inner body awareness, using the power of your own breath. I also focus on strength and mobility, as well as dipping into Pilates and animal flow for the benefits a strong core has, in everyday life. The practice I offer, encompasses both traditional static Hatha postures and more modern creative flows, targeting all planes of movements. My enthusiasm comes from a deep desire to share the benefits the regular practice of yoga offers both physically and mentally, without taking it too seriously but with the willingness to step out of the comfort zone.

Yoga is restorative, relaxing and can also be energising. My Yoga journey started many years ago in South Africa, when a stressful job and general lack of work-life balance, led me to my first yoga practice. I found it gave me time for myself, helped me to de-compress and improved my my mental health. I found daily practice, an enjoyable way of carving out time to prioritise my own well-being. It's restorative, relaxing and can also be energising depending on the poses. Wanting to gain a deeper understanding of yoga and its extensive benefits, led me to my teacher training. Whether teaching or practising, my happy place is on the mat!

Yoga isn’t about being flexible, it’s about the unity between body and mind. Yoga practise helps us listen to our bodies and understand the fluctuations of our minds, allowing us to observe our stress and emotional reactions, as a witness. I've found other forms of exercise restrictive or competitive - yoga is neither of these. I've been practising yoga for nearly 20 years and trained as a 200 hour certified Yoga Alliance teacher in 2020 and continued training to become a junior Tai-Chi and qigong teacher in 2021. The benefits of regular yoga practise are abundant; from increased strength and flexibility to improved nervous system regulation and better sleep. All of these advantages can help improve our lives. Being a yoga teacher and sharing these tools with others is a privilege.

The typical yoga stereotypes would have you believe that to practice yoga you must be vegan, a hippie, super serious and a bit woo-woo. In fact, none of these myths contribute anything to yoga, additionally when you let me guide you in a yoga class, you will quickly realise that there is no such thing as being “good” or “bad” at yoga. We’re all just showing up on our mat to practice something that can make us stronger, more flexible, more accepting, more relaxed and, along the way, we tend to become better than we used to be. Having practised yoga for nearly 10 years I have experienced all sorts of benefits which led me to training as a teacher (though I prefer term ‘guide’) at Akram Yoga Studio, completing a 200-hour course and qualifying as a Registered Yoga Teacher (Yoga Alliance). My passion to pass on some of my experience in a safe, relaxed, and friendly environment in central to my classes, because I firmly believe that yoga is for every-body!

Grab a mat, leave your shoes and busy thoughts at the door and come join me! Fitness has always played an important part in my life but there's one form of exercise that I would choose over any other - Yoga. I realised I wanted to share the way yoga makes me feel with others, so I worked to get my 200 hr YTT qualification. I believe that this ancient, beautiful form of exercise can be practiced by anyone and its health benefits are huge. It tones muscles, builds strength and improves flexibility, but it's not just about the body. Yoga brings focus because you work with the breath in every pose which induces the relaxation response, reduces anxiety and calms the nervous system. It's a wonderful connection between body, mind and breath. So, grab a mat, leave your shoes and busy thoughts at the door and come join me!

My mantra is ‘Yoga is for everyone!’ I have always invested in my physical health but I felt that something was missing from my exercise routine. Yoga has filled that gap. I got into Yoga about 12 years ago and instantly loved it. I trained as a teacher in 2015 and have never looked back. As well as teaching Bro-ga I teach in my Yurt in Witley and at an addiction treatment centre. I love seeing the impact Yoga can have on the physical, mental and spiritual health of my clients. Yoga has transformative powers. And it truly is for everyone!
